Breast reduction
Breast reduction is a surgery performed to improve its aesthetic appearance by resection of excessive breast tissues and reshaping of new breast mound.
Expected result is smaller and proportional breast, better matching female chest. Large reductions (> 500g) may have medical indications if hypertrophied breast causes back pain, vertebral column degeneration, hygiene maintenance and dermatologic problems.
Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia.
Depending on magnitude of reduction, patients preference and feasibility, skin incisions may be placed in periareolar area, lower half of the breast and submammary area. Although resulting scars are permanent, they became hardly conspicuous after normal healing is complete.
Patients after this type of surgery stay in the facility overnight.
Return to normal (non-strenuous) activity takes 10 -14 days. Sport activities may be resumed after 3 months. Compression supporting bra must be worn for 3 months.
Although result of breast reduction is immediate, it will improve gradually within 6-12 months. Obtained result is long-lasting but not permanent. Surgery doesn’t stop natural aging processes. Weight changes, pregnancies and hormones can influence obtained result.
