Liposuction
Liposuction is performed in individuals seeking aesthetic improvement in various areas of the body with excessive subcutaneous fat deposits which remain despite implemented diet and physical exercises.
It is not an alternative to weight loss and is not performed in individuals with morbid obesity (BMI > 30) and excessive skin laxity.
Dr Pietrasik pretreats fat tissue to be suctioned with high-energy tools such as laser (Slim-Lipo) or ultrasound (VASER). Thus, recovery is faster and bruises are rare.
In females liposuction is most frequently performed in: abdomen, hips, thighs, knees area, arms and neck. In males these are: abdomen, lateral abdominal area (“love handles”), chest (gynecomastia).
Type of anesthesia depends on area and expected volume of fat to be removed. Larger (>4000cc) and moderate (2000-4000cc) liposuctions are performed in general anesthesia meanwhile smaller ones are conducted in local anesthesia with sedation.
Short (2-3mm) skin incisions located in physiological creases adjacent to corrected areas became imperceptible after normal healing is complete.
Following infiltration with wetting solution, fat tissue is pretreated with laser or ultrasound to facilitate following liposuction.
Return to normal activity depends on treated area and volume of removed fat but typically takes 7-10 days.
Sport activities may be resumed after 2-4 weeks.
Compression garment should be worn for 8 weeks.
Results of liposuction gradually improve within 6 months after surgery what is related to normal physiology of healing. Final good result may be changed by uncontrolled weight gain or hormones.
